Info:

The format is base around you following a route we have designed and will be sent to you 24 hours prior to the event start. Once you leave the start it is down to you to navigate your way, although we will supply some landmarks as reference points but the rest is down to you.

You will need to be self-sufficient during the event, carry your own food, water and spares for your bike.

The MADAX is for any bike that is capable of being ridden off-road: mountain bikers, fatbikers, cyclocrossers and gravel bikers, you are all welcome. (No Ebikes I’m afraid).

Bear in mind, we’re mountain bikers and love an adventure. Your adventure will take you across a variety of surfaces and terrain, with a focus on riding as many off road trails that we can squeeze into 100kms. This variety of terrain will have you smiling, cursing and counting your blessings at different times.

We have found a home in the Pelican Inn, an ancient Gloucester pub where the event will start and finish.

We will have a medic based at the pub to provide first aid plus radio cover with a support vehicle on hand should you need it. Emotional rescue will be found at the bottom of a fine pint of ale or cider, courtesy of the Wye Valley Brewery.

The route:

Starting and finishing at The Pelican Inn, a public house on the edge of the historic city of Gloucester, you will then head in the direction  of Tewksbury,  firstly on road before the first off-road trail, you will make your way over to the Cotswold Hills for the first real climb. You’ll enjoy open Cotswold hills, broken up by wooded trails, then wooded singletrack eventually leads you onto the final descent, then it’s back to the Pelican via the Gloucestershire sharpness canal where we’ll be waiting to welcome you back and celebrate your achievement. The route will be a mix of terrain and can be ridden on a gravel bike if you must, its 60% offroad. On return you can soothe your aches and pains (with a beer), soothe your emotional distress (with 2 pints of beer) and enjoy some food.

Please take note; this is a natural route, it’s not manicured. We have ridden it and found nothing that cannot be coped with, even in spd sandals (Don’t ask)

Route profile:

Be Prepared:

Check your brake pads, your drive train, so chain, cassette, gear cables and bottom bracket. Make sure your tyres are suitable and in good condition, if you run tubeless make sure you have sealant in the tyres (Shake and listen for the sloshing sound) Food, a good tip is to eat what you normally eat, don’t suddenly change to gels, or energy supplements if you are not use to them. Carry plenty of water and drink a lot regularly. (You can find places to top up on route, pubs for instance, (the Colesbourne Inn proved a good top up for us when pre-riding the route). You can also buy food on route so don’t carry too much. Lastly and important. Make sure your GPS device is fully charged and the route is loaded the day before. Carry a mobile phone and make sure its charged before you start. A backup power pack battery is a great thing to carry and they are super cheap, around £25, basically most will deliver 4 phone charges and of course charge you GPS device is needed.

UPDATE: You will be required to download the Life360 app to your phone, this is a tracking app, its free and means we can see where you are at all times, so long as your phone is on, Again please think about a power pack, they are brilliant to keep things changed.
